Budget 2012

2012 05 04

Dear friends,

This year’s federal budget could have made a positive difference here in Atlantic Canada. It could have set out practical steps to create jobs, promote growth and strengthen the services you rely on.

Instead, this reckless budget demonstrates that the Conservatives’ out-of-touch priorities hurt Canadians. The negative impacts are being felt in nearly every corner of our society.

Ms. Megan Leslie (Halifax, NDP):

Mr. Speaker, in last year's election campaign, the Conservatives did not announce a planned attack on our national parks.

Ms. Megan Leslie (Halifax, NDP):

Mr. Speaker, we would like to talk about the consequences of these cuts, because the Conservatives refuse to so.

Dear Friends,

A tragedy has come to pass in our city. A treasured member of our community, Raymond Taavel was murdered. We have lost a prominent community activist, a gentle soul and a cherished friend.

Dear Friends,

April 15th, 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of one of the greatest marine disasters in recorded history. No one could have predicted when the Titanic set sail on her maiden voyage for New York on April 12, 1912 from Southampton England, that Halifax would be changed forever.
